Volks,

I'm a newbie to the Vanagon community, but come from a family of VW enthusiasts. I'm 22 years old, and just bought my first Vanagon last fall, an '85 Westfalia with <80,000 miles on original engine. She's an absolute beauty! Currently the only problems she's giving me are some electrical issues that keep draining batteries. So until I have time to pinpoint the cause, i've just been pulling the negative (ground) strap off the battery terminal whenever I'm not driving to keep my battery alive.

My mother bought a '66 bug in college and drove it until the late '70s. My father has owned a '77 bus, a '78 karmen ghia, an '82 (i think) diesel rabbit, and now a '96 jetta.

So the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree...

I can't imagine life without a VW van...when the engine dies in my current van, I'll likely throw a subaru engine in to keep it going.

=)
