Hi Dave !

I assume you have an injected engine ?? If so, check them small VW sockets that are hidden under rubber everywhere around the engine ! Takeīm apart check for corrosion and use some electrical or anti corrosive oil spray on every single one ! If this donīt work, lift the lid on the AFM and use a little electrical spray there too I had this problem every fall as long as I drove the Digifant WBX, kept comming back and itīs a pain in the butt not to know weather your engineīs gonna stall or accelerate when you press the pedal !! Many times Iīve had to abort passing 18 wheelers with a dead engine in the rain, always to the joy of the driver behind me ;-)
