That would work but it would be much easier for him to just unplug the
ribbon cable from that board. Remove the cluster top cover to get to the
back of the speedo housing and gently pull that plug out of the speedo
case. Just leave everything else together so when he gets around to
fixing it he won't have to take it all apart again.

The whole concept is faulty as the oil warning system is important and
should be fixed or at least made to always use the low rpm switch only.
He does not understand how the system works or he would know that VW
designed it so that leaving the 2 pin connector near the motor undone
FORCES the high rpm oil switch to trigger the low oil pressure alarm.
This was a smart design but confusing to some.
