Hi every one. I have been blessed to own a 1984 westy. We got it new off a VW dealer in Sacramento Ca. This has been a great van for us,had lots of power, good seats, great camping gear, easy it setup for the night ect. I should tell you my other vans were a 69 westy and 62 split barn door. So when I speak of speed this is what I am compareing it to. Our 84 always used a little coolant has never burnt oil and at 210,000 miles was runing really well but devleloped coolant leaks and a bad oil leak. Was not feeling real good about leaving oil and coolant trails behind me so we are replaceing the engine with a new Tiico! I have to say that this Bus has been good to us. It has gone years with out any problems whatsoever. Here is the repair Data: 2 water puumps, 1 radiator, wheel bearings, Brakes all around, two set of cvjoints head lamps 2 taillamps, master cylinder, clutch cylinder, slave cylinder, transmission, clutch and pressure plate, throw out bearings. and One coolant hose! Try that with a new car. This Bus is still tight. It still has many miles left on it. As long as we can get parts its a runner. Again 20 years old. I am 55 We have owned it for 2/3 of our married life. PS.There is a great story in The Whole Earth Catalog Called Devine Rights Trip. It deals with buses road trips and reality check it out. |
