hey all, i just wanted to let everyone know my latest experiment. so i bought a bunch of this stuff called dynamat from best buy to soundproof my 87 syncro westy as per bulley's website on soundproofing (he used q-pads$$). so i bought about $120 worth and was able to do the driver and passenger floor board, center floor board, center kitchen floor area, rear engine area and hatch area, and with the scraps i did the door panels. i also bought the spray insulator called great stuff to use in the hollow cavities throughout the van. here's the result. whisper quiet. one problem though, before i did this i was having this knocking noise everytime i shifted. i believe it to be a motor or tranny mount. anyways now with this new soundproofing i don't hear it, even though i know it is still there. so i gained peace and quiet but lost my sense of "noise prevention" i always used to know when something was about to go heywire. don't get me wrong it is nice to be able to enjoy jerry and the boys on cd on a reasonable sound level and still maintain a conversation without screaming at each other at highway speeds, but i will have to really pay closer visual attention now since i can't hear everything. really nice improvement and highly recommended but remember to pay close attention to your vans mechanical needs!!! that's all jason 87 syncro westy _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ |
