Don't be so certain. There are vendors out there that are more than willing to sell you all the parts you need to make your own stainless steel brake line sets. Some offer them as a kit. These are NOT going to be DOT certified. There is no way that the DOT would ever issue a blanket approval for every idiot in America to assemble their own brake lines with DOT certification.

In this case, I agree with the government. Brake lines are important. Only a trained professional should be assembling them, and they should be tested before they are sold.
