It's the AFM (air flow meter, check archives) resistor having an erratic connection, causing erratic signals to the ECU (engine computer) which turns off the motor immediately thinking there's a major fault, e.g. a car crash (air stopped flowing means car has stopped suddenly), to prevent a fire or other possible hazzards.

A safety feature that's vulnerable to a common part mechanical failure.
