Subject: Oil Pressure Relief Valve - Need Anecdotal Info
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Hi,

I can't find a resource anywhere that tells me whether the relief valve fits tightly or loosely in the relief valve cylinder. I took mine out to investigate a leak.

I put a dowel in the relief valve, thinking that it would fit tightly enough for me to pull the dowel out - but it wasn't. The relief valve fits very loosely.

I had to slide the spring over a screwdriver and use the screwdriver to carefully push the relief valve in until it felt like it was seated (still wiggled) - slide the spring up and depress, then screw in the plug.

There aren't any instructions anywhere that I can find on doing this in the Bentley, so I'm not sure I did it right. After putting everything back together, the engine seemed to overheat quickly. This may be because I didn't think of priming the engine before letting it fire up. The oil light went out after a few moments at idle.

The oil pressure light goes off when the engine starts up - and doesn't flicker or come on at 2k rpm.

I'm using a Mann oil filter and 20w50.

Conrad
