Never tried on 12V. On 110VAC, it's a snap. On propane, it I start with cold water in the trays at the start of a trip, I'll have solid cubes when I get to my favourite campsite. It's about a 6 hour trip, usually hot (25 C+), and the last two hours of the drive on rough logging roads. Given the weird shape of the cubes when I get to the site, it indicates to me that the water was not fully frozen when I left the pavement, suggesting the partially frozen water started getting knocked around pretty hard at about hour four, and froze hard somewhere along the logging roads.

Of course, at the moment I have no working propane since I smeared the flimsy tank skid plate nearly off (and damaged the propane plumbing at the same time) exploring decommissioned logging roads during the last camp of last season. Got to get on to fixing that, but gotta finish replacing the transmission I crippled on the same trip first...
