Well I went to Bens site and read about the engine fire stories and boy it sure gives me pause.

I would like to do all I can to take precautions against having an engine fire.

One of the most scary things about this is once your van catches on fire its pretty much stand by the road and watch it totally burn, which would totally KILL ME!

I would like to get some feedback from the group on what you all do to prevent this from happening.

Some thoughts I have:

Haylon fire extinguishers are ALLOT more expensive than the powder type but I understand they are quite a bit more effective for their size than the powder types.
What are your feelings?

There are some nylon hard plastic type of fuel lines that run from the fuel tank on the vanagon then you also have rubber hose fuel lines and plastic fuel rails for the injectors.

In this system where are the potential culprits for a catastrophic fuel leak?  Which of these parts do not ever seem to fail?

What do the sleeves on the fuel lines in the engine compartment really do? 

What rubber fuel line is the best to use?
