Remember, a 4WD will always get worse fuel economy because of the extra weight and driveline drag.

Pickup trucks are aerodynamically inferior to vans, as well -- that open bed with its solid tailgate creates turblance and drag.

In-town milage for any heavy vehicle will be nothing to write home about, especially with a slushbox, but most people don't drive their campers as primary around-town vehicles.
