This is good to see. Yep.. try to rent one of those however.. you *cant*! (at least we couldnt find any in AZ for rental) That is what spurred this crazy search, and then acquisition in the first place. Ever since my wife and I saw a white syncro westy on a trip in the Wind Rivers (parking lot at the big sandy opening) in 1997, we've though about getting one.. finally did it this year, very cool vehicle.. has just reinforced what I suspected all along. Re: smaller.. yes.. exactly.. we wanted something that still forced us to think like we do when tent camping.. (you cant bring "everything" with you on vacation.. there is something about going a few days without a shower that builds character you know! :-) (of course kids love it anyways.. they *hate* baths/showers for the most part!) my parents had a pop-up trailer when I was growing up.. okay, but not practical in the city with HOA's CC&R's and such that make you keep anything like that in storage, out of sight (and out of mind) the syncro doesnt even fit in the garage, so it has to stay out front under a car cover.. it is fun folding everything out like a swiss army knife, then getting ready for a weekend adventure with the family, stereo blaring, neighbors envious..? (or maybe not.. it's a VW thing.. you wouldn't understand ;-) a buddy/climbing partner of mine is considering an 18-22 foot pull behind nomad trailer.. I'm calling him crazy, I think it will be huge waste of money for him (something they wont use that often.. just like a ski boat! ;-) but to each his own I guess... I keep sending him photos/links of cherry westy's that I find to no avail. Oh well, some people just dont get it I guess. Besides, with the places we can go/get to in the syncro westy, It's going to be a pain in the rear to accomodate others in the group with huge trailers (mind you these are back of the truck or tent camping folks.. most of the places we go are 4wd or forest service type of roads) other family has a coleman popup and had a 'lift' kit put on it in order to drag it back into some of the camping areas in the USFS that we like to go to -tim 90 syncro westy mesa, az |
