Air cooled motors simply do not last very long. Heat just burns them up. These engines are expensive to rebuild unlike the old bug. Air cooled engines do not produce very good heat, Just like the old bugs. These AC Vanagons do not have the HP as the 2.1L engine do, therefore they tend to get beat. If nothing else make sure the einge is good.
