Hi, I found that the sparepart no. is 251 711 227. I called a lot of VW dealers, and most said they didnt have it - out of production - but one said "OK - no big deal, we'll get it, tomorrow it is here, 2$ - and that is great :-) " Morale; Some VW dealers dosent care about ordering cheap stuff to old cars - not enough profit involved. And thank you very much for the tip about using bicycle tube and zip-ties. I'll let you know how it goes. Btw. I did fix it intermediately with 2 rubberbands wrapped up real hard, and then added duck-tape. Worked over the weekend, but too soft for comfort. Found another funny thing; the drivebelt for the alternator has a lot of cracks in it - I got a replacement on sunday, started the work - found out that I couldnt find my unbraco-set, so I had to backtrace and close up with no belt-shift, found the unbraco just as we left for the farm - GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I have another messy job to do. Happy driving Jens Jakob

My reply: I replaced the guide ring you are referring to on my 1982 air cooled Westy. The good folks at Go Westy where able to find one for me. Unfortunately, they were not able to locate the boot for the guide pin. I ended up using a section of an old bicycle tire tube and some zip ties. Looks good so far. Shift on, Jake
