Thank you very much to all who have replied and my apologies to anyone who saw my original post and thought "oh no... not another idiot". I seem to have gotten basically the same advice from each respondent. Living in Southern California (sorry for not making that clear), it seems to be the consensus that 20W50 in conjunction with a Mann or Mahle filter is the way to go.
