The oil manufacturer is responsible for his/her recommended oil drain
intervals. They are warranted for that as well. Most say 3000 miles
because that is all they can handle with little risk. I do 15,000 mile
drains on my van since that is what the oil manufacturer says it's oil will
handle. Oil analysis has proved that is very conservative. It isn't done
to justify the cost, it is done because of improved additive formulations
and because it will perform at least as well if not better than using dino
oil with 3 month/3000 mile drains.
