It has "skate" wheels because that was the way it was designed to work best. I used to use oversize tires (LT8.50X27) on my Westy, but really didn't like the way it handled. Much better now that I've gone back to stock sized tires.

It's about the spare tire carrier.

What is the largest tire the stock spare tire carrier can handle without hassle? I read in the archives that 27" wheels can be crammed in. Not what I am looking for.

I have 195/14s on my '87 Westy syncro and I am tired of answering the question of why my rig has skate wheels on it.
