Unless you spend time on the track, I'm guessing your 968 engine doesn't spend a whole lot of time at or near maximum output. My 2.1L Westy engine, on the other hand, spends plenty of time in this condition, often climbing long rough roads at full output, or long mountain climbs, etc. Loaded weight is often 3 tons. So synthetic makes me feel better, and it's cheap insurance. :-) I'm pretty sure it makes the engine feel better too, because the lifter noise that was evident with Castrol GTX 20w50 disappeared when I switched to Mobil1, and stayed away for > 10k kms.
