Subject: kings canyon camping and citric acid radiator flush
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Over the holiday I did my first real test of my cooling system since I did the citric acid radiator flush. The Easter trip had scared me into action as it was cooler then and I was using my heater to keep the engine cool. The trip to King's Canyon goes through Fresno. Fresno is hot. If your coming from the Bay area I suggest the Gilroy route instead of the Tracey route. From Fresno there is a very steady 4-6% grade up. Climbing to 7000 feet I found the climb easier than Yosemite as there was less up and down and the van could handle everthing in 3rd gear not needing to shift to 2nd at all and not needing to turn the heater on. King's Canyon is a good alternative to Yosemite as it is less crowded. Intersting to see bears grazing in the grass uninterested in the primates walking around them. Many camping areas but few with showers. When you need that shower look to lodgepole for the public showers that take quarters. A very busy place for that reason so save the showers for the middle of the week. Condsider a night in the delux rustic cabins or tent cabins as another alternative to getting that required shower for the week of sweat. May your summer be full of camping, gary
