Most auto parts stores now sell the red and white reflective tape that you see on the backs of most semi trailers. Research has shown that this causes a significant decrease in accidents on heavy trucks; it would work on Vanagons, too, I'm sure. That's what I would use, because it's something people already associate with the backs of slow vehicles. Headlights will light this stuff up at amazing distances.

Do *not* use a slow moving vehicle triangle, like you see on tractors. In Michigan (and probably most states) it's illegal to use one on a vehicle that can exceed 25 mph.
