Subject: '86 2.1 Oil Pressure light coming on
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hello all...

Well, I thought I was close to getting my van actually on the road after a winter of working on it. Registered it on Saturday.

However...

The oil light is now coming on. It has always flickered at low idle, but would stop once I got moving again. The other day during a local test drive it would come on while driving at normal speeds with throttle and stay on until I turned the van off.

I am not a mechanic, Most of the stuff I did during the winter was exhaust, hose, suspension and tune up related....a potential engine issue is probably over my head.

I think my first step will be to attach an oil pressure gauge to it and see what is going on. I saw a post once that the filter could potentially cause low oil pressure, but I have a bosch from Bus depot so I don't think that is it. Could changing to a different oil (I have 10w-30 running currently) actually help this?....I don't want to start another oil thread here :)

Are there any basic things I can look at other than what I just said? I will probably go to a pro for this, but I do want to do what I can beforehand.

Thanks....

Jason
