Hello-

I need to be down in Santa Barbara for a wedding this 4th of July,
leaving from Seattle, WA.

I know in my (non-vanagon) car, I can make it to San Fransisco in 15
hours.  If I recall, Grants Pass is really the worst trouble spot, with
Vanagon speeds around 40mph for what seemed like an hour or so.

Can anyone familiar with the west coast advise how long this drive
should take?  Can it be comfortably done in 2 days?  I'm fine driving 12
hours or so, I would rather do more on day one than on day 2.  There are
also other drivers onboard able to relieve.

It seems somewhere a little north of SF would be ideal, are there
suggestions on good places to camp?  I'm not looking for scenery (on the
way down), just a decent place to sleep and maybe cook... a KOA style
place might even be fine.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this trip.

On the way back up, I will be able to take much more time, taking the
PCH for a bit, etc.
