A few years ago I had my automatic tranny serviced. After I picked it up the transmission was slipping. When I checked the fluid level it was over the full mark by maybe a cup or so based on the difference between the two marks being .5 quart apart. I took it back, they drained some ATF fluid and it's been ok since. Yesterday I had a (governor?) seal replaced, and on the way home the tranny was slipping again (first to second, mainly). When I got home I checked the ATF fluid and, sure enough, it was overfilled. I took it back, they drained some fluid... and it's been slipping every since. The mechanic said there were some filings in the bottom of the pan that were "probably from the clutch". Both Bentley and the VW manual state NOT to overfill the tranny. My question is, could those two instances of overfilling have caused some damage even though the condition was quickly rectified both times? Or, in removing and replacing the (governor?) could they have disrupted some other critical adjustment that might be causing the slipping?
