  I've seen a few of these and am sorry I didn't make one myself.
You will see in the middle of the vanagon there is a frame like section
that can easily be made to except the tung end of the trailer.  Close
off the exposed front and leave a little side above the rear deck lid,
and you have a simple trailer.
