Subject: Replacement Camper Inlet Covers Now Avail!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I've waited long to be able to annouce this. Finally you no longer have to replace the whole inlet for $50 each just because your hinged lid snapped off or the spring broke! For the first time ever (from me or anywhere else), I now have genuine Westfalia replacement camper inlet covers.

This has been somewhat of a holy grail for me, as it's always bugged the heck out of me to have to hit people for $50 for an inlet just because they needed a lid. But I just couldn't get a good quality cover by itself (much less one that was an exact match for the original). These covers are $19.95 each, which isn't dirt cheap but a lot better than $50. What's more, they're genuine Westfalia parts, so they look and fit right, and even come complete with a new hinge and spring already attached.

It's a slightly delicate job to install the new cover, since the inlets are a bit fragile and made of plastic, but it took me less than 10 minutes to do one using this kit (not including removing the inlet from the van, which is easy) and it came out perfect. You need a 1/16" drill bit, two drops of epoxy, a screwdriver and a small hammer. I wrote up detailed instructions which will be included with each purchase. These are available in black only, so if you have an old Westy with white inlets you'll have to either paint the inlet or the lid to match. Also these don't replace the 1988-up tank water inlet lids that take a plastic key on the lid itself, but that lid rarely breaks anyway. They will replace the lids for the electrical inlet, the city water inlet, or the pre-1988 style tank water inlet where the keyhole is under the flap and not on it.

Incidentally, new decals for the outside of the lids are not included, but we do sell a kit including almost all of the Westy exterior decals (except on the poptop) for $15.95, part # 253070900.
