i've camped in alot of places in the US many urban and may rural. i've never really had too many problems unless you count those kids on their bmx bikes staring at me and my girl friend when we woke up in that grocery store parking lot :). my van is currently set up so that you can't tell if i am in there or not, even if you shine your million candle power spot light on it trying to see in. the worst problems i have had is rent a cops in mall parking lots. they get bored so they like to come over and rock the van. if you don't let them know your inside they seem to have this conversation. "man it seems like if some one were in there they would have come out, they must be working in the store." at which point i go back to reading my book with my head light on.

i guess it all might come down to what your used to. i grew up in the city of detroit so that tends to give me perspective on what and who to be afraid of and who/what to ignore. most people bark and few bite unless your dumb enough to taunt them. my rule of thumb is when you have to, truly be crazier than those bothering you, oh and be unpredictable as hell they hate that as they figure they have you all figured out because you are camping in a vw van and they know all about those types :).
