I'm just in the process of finishing a up a bunch of mechanicals to my 89 Caravelle Carat and will soon be following up with a complete exterior re-paint (I'll send some pictures and complete details once I'm all done). Right now there is a sort of soft "cunk" sound/feel from the steering that seems to have been diagnosed as a failed U.Joint on the shaft. Story goes so far that the part is sold as a complete new shaft (approaching $300 can). Has anyone had any experience with removing the shaft and perhaps press fitting a new (they're small !) U joint back in ? I was even thinking of giving it to a machine shop to do ........ any ideas ? David Hayward 71 K.Ghia vert 88 Syncro Westy 89 Caravelle Carat 02 Jetta TDI |
