If the upper a-arm is knocking about it means that UCABs have developed enough play to allow too much movement which could with time disfigure or stretch your upper control arm (UCA). Then when you attempt to replace the UCABs you might have difficulty getting the long bolt in which cinches the UCABs along with UCA and you might be SOL or SO$, IMHO, LOL, ROFL, BYOB, etc, which might require a good used UCA or a BFH to fix the existing one.
