I'm in Lost Vegas and our van has been adjusting to the HEAT here we get in the 100's alot here and when its real hot i drive a bit slower and also just watch things more, BTW i love when my fan comes on it tries to lower the temp of the van and does to some point, Only time i would worry is if it never shuts off like my old Jetta ;)

drive careful and drink water. Joe

Don't worry about the fan coming on, it's normal and supposed to do that. I also live in a hot area (Central Valley of CA) and sometimes the fan comes on when I'm idling in heavy traffic even with no a/c. I repeat, it's normal.

Well I took the newly rebuilt 89 out for a pretty good drive today. When I left the inland area (temps in the 100s) the high speed level of the fan would come on if I sit at a stop light with the AC on. Once rolling for a minute or two it would knock down to the lower speed.

It seems to have to work pretty hard to stay cool, especially if the AC is on. I am wondering if anybody has installed a larger radiator or found a better way to duct the hot air out? I did remove the spare and the spare carrier to allow the air to get out easier trying to help my new engine.

Would it make a big difference if you ran a couple main heater cores with electric fans over the tranny for high heat areas like this?

My ford ranger will run all day at idle with the ac on max and never even nudge on the temp.

Doug
