I think Stan's description was targeted mainly at aircooled engines, which of course don't require bleeding.

Because of their limited ability to reject heat, the hardest part in breaking in an aircooled engine is keeping it from overheating until the parts wear in and friction goes down -- hence Stan's suggestions about not letting it idle for long periods of time, etc.
