One possibility is to add a front AC unit from a 85 or earlier vanagon to the Westy. This has been done by Frank Grunthaner. Attached are some files that show and explain what he did - all zipped into one file. (I know the list strips it.)

What is the problem you are having with the archives? They are working as I have used them this week to solve a problem without going to the list. What did you do that "didn't work?" I just typed AC and Westy into the "For:" block and got lots of results from January 2002 to the present. Many are not what you want, but there seemed to lots of info in there including Larry Chase's report on his front AC project.
