I pulled the trim from the windows on my van and the stuff just broke up in to dozens of pieces it was so brittle. Ugly stuff.

Consequence of removal?? I have leaks on the right and left bottom corners of the windshield, and also the right rear window. I'm not to pushed out of shape about it as I am about to change the rubber anyway. But it definitely appears that some type of lock is needed to tighten the seal unless a different type of rubber is used that doesn't require the lock. to seal.
