There's no key, just a taper. You have to get the cam, pump and flywheel synced up mechanically, then torque the cam sprocket and injector pump. This is for sure on a 1.6, probably no reason a 1.9 would be different. You may just need to retorque. However, if the 1.9 is anything like the 1.6, you couldn't get more than one tooth out and still clear the valves.

The camshaft is the worst place to apply torque, you'll stretch the belt and you are surely skewing your reading. Bentley warns against this. Drop the muffler, turn the belt via the crank sprocket. You can trust that TDC reading.
