David,

I used Syncro springs in the back of my Westy as well, and they
do raise the vehicle too high putting too much stress on your CV
joints and boots due to the angles involved.  They also remove
nearly all the negative travel from your rear suspension.  I
can't comment on the over-extension of shocks as mine were never
damaged that way.

I am now using only two spacers per side and have had no
problems with either CV joints, boots, or the spacers themselves
 over the last 2 years.
