Except, of course, unless you happen to be lucky enough to own one of
those rare Diesel Westys. It doesn't even have to be "creampuff."
Their value just seems to increase daily.
Recent prices:
1982 gas Westy = $750 in San Jose
1982 diesel Westy = $6k. eBay, San Diego. (it was nice. but not THAT
nice.)
Go figure.
Regular passenger Vanagons... Price is falling. After the boneyards
crush about 80% of them and there are no wasserboxer parts left, THEN
the prices will start to come back up. Maybe.... It's starting to
happen with lagwagens now. Bays that were $1k last year are $1.25k this
year.
When it comes right down to it, there isn't any other vehicle with the
capabilities of a VW bus. That will always have some market value.
Keep the rust away and you'll usually be able to sell it for what you
paid for it. Eventually.
