Agreed, BUT. Humor and sarcasm are different beasts. Humor: We should all be chuckling. Sarcasm: The recipient should feel bad or dumb, and perhaps some others are chuckling. :) 8-) ;) When I used sarcasm lately, I wanted a certain type of person (the rude-to-newbie type) to feel a sharp jab, and my follow-up was to make another type (the "gave a condescending lecture because THEY lacked comprehension, liked the feeling, and ran with it" type), feel kinda silly. When all is said and done, I've been on the list for a couple of years too, and after watching all of the lunacy here, I felt compelled to join in. At least my "angry" posts have heard of grammar & proper capitalization, compared to the usual suspects'. How many of you sniping parties actually know each other? How many have ever met each other? I drove 10 hours this weekend to meet some list members face-to-face. They and I were not matches in age, life experience, Vanagon experience, native locality... hardly anything. They own Vanagons; I own Vanagons. They gave me a place to sleep & I helped work on their van. We communicated all the while. We even managed to share differing viewpoints amicably! Try this at home! You don't have to suffer fools, but you SHOULD suffer questions from people who like Vanagons, or are desperately trying to! -Simon |
