The air cooled Vanagon does have the bypass and the OEM filter for it
does not have an anti-drain back valve. Different application. The water
boxer engine does not have the bypass.

Air Cooled Vanagon engines have a bypass and the WBX have this valve
too.
I can prove it with pictures if it requies that.
