That's hardly a body lift. They lowed the engine / transmission to fit the fuel tank. The rear suspension bolts on to the same location. A body lift would be the Golf Country Syncro.

yes it has been done, vw did it. go measure a syncro and compare it to your two wheel drive. the first indication can be seen by comparing the differences in engine cross bar carriers. you will note that the syncro bar was dropped about 2" from the bottom of the frame rails.
