I have towed other vanagons with my '84 vanagon on several occasions. The furthest distance was about 60 miles. I towed a second '84 vangon behind mine on a rented tow dolly. This was on rte 15 in Manfield PA, it is very hilly. On the hills I never left second, the entire trip I never exceeded 45 or so. I have also used tow bars, but I felt the most secure with the dolly. My hitch was reinforced by the PO, so it was plenty strong and bolted to the frame as well as the tow hooks.
