It would all depend on if you were oriented towards horsepower or torque. Plenty of horsepower can be had from the 8v 2.0l. AFAIK, the Tiico kit is only one that that offers an upgrade with their kit. This isnt to say that you need the Tiico upgrade kit. All kinds of things can be changed and manipulated to gain more power out of the gas 2.0l engine.

If you are looking for torque then the TDI is the best bet. This can also be chipped, IC'd and lots of other goodies to gain more torque/hp.

It all comes down to two things.

What are you going to be using the van for.

and

Speed costs money; how fast do you want to go?
