Correct, there is no PM for the tranny problem. There is however tons of PM for the rest of the Vanagon.

If you don't want to buy a Bentley, that's your choice. The point is, the Bentley is an excellent reference, much better than the list for many things.

Ignorance will only cost you time, money and heartache.

If you need to get the last word in this watered-down peeing match, feel free. For me, I'm done.

There is no preventative maintenance for badly designed components like the slider hub in most of the 049 transmission.
