Rusty, My mechanic (BJ's Wrench Connection in West Palm Beach, FL) installed a replacement A/C compressor in my '91 Carat. Also, converted to 134A, and this all works like a charm. Without tinted windows I'm able to cool my van during our 95-degree, 80% humidity sunny days in S. Florida. I don't recall the model of the compressor, just that BJ (the mechanic) told me that he's had a lot of success with these, and, to date, I can back that up -- I run my A/C every single day of the week on my 12-mile (one-way) commute -- it's very comfy. Sorry I don't have the info, but give BJ or Leah a call at 561-844-4114, I'm sure he'll give you the info. Mine was $265.00.... (I actually looked at the compressor, but I could not determine its model info, and when I called BJ myself, he was gone for the day today, otherwise I'd pass along more info, sorry about that...) Good luck! -Robert -----Original Message----- From: Rusty Zarse <rustyzarse@YAHOO.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Tue, 22 Jun 2004 08:08:00 -0700 Subject: A/C Compressor - generic?

I was wondering if qanyone had used a generic A/C compressor or if there were alternatives to the expensive and hard to find vanagon compressor.

I missed a used one on Ebay for $40 and I am kciking myself.

What about rebuilds?

My belt is not connected and I cannot even budge the pully by hand. I assume its froze up. It was like that when I bought it....

My wife won't travel unless I fix it and we can't afford it. Help my westy see the open road again, he looks so sad.
