The hoses are probably porous just from age. The AC compressor may be leaking at the seal and the Condenser or evaporator may be leaking. Condenser leaks are hard to find but they happen. Also check that the relief plug on the receiver/dryer is not leaking.

I had my Westy changed over to 134R when it had the engine converted to a 1.9TD (along with the Jetta Diesel A/C compressor). No one can find any leaks but I have lost the charge three times. Is it possible for the hoses to leak 134R (because of smaller molecule size of 134R) than won't be picked up by the light which can detect the dye? The first charge lasted a few months, the second charge only 4 or 5 days, and the third charge about a week.

Thanks

Wade Yorke
