No there isn't. There's no telling why she had that idea in mind, and it
doesn't matter. All that needed to be said was 'good news, your engine
doesn't have a timing belt, so there's one thing you don't have to worry
about' (or the like). In fact, since she didn't state what engine she had,
the responses she got were based on assumptions- and you know what they say
about assumptions. Given the possible circumstances, it's clear that the
list members' ignorance of her engine was greater than her own- so who has
the bigger problem? IMO, the best response would have been 'What engine do
you have in your vehicle?'
Aside from her case, the simple fact is that there are several people on
this list who can say that their Vanagons have timing belts, so it's a
perfectly legitimate question.
