When the insurance company writes the check you can tell them that you have not decided which shop is going to perform the work, or when it will be done, and they will make it out to you. I have done this several times, including this month, with no problem. This allows you more time to decide how to proceed and the insurance company can clear the claim from their files. If additional damage is found during the repair they will take care of it with a supplement to the original claim.
