I cant be sure and don't really care that expands and how much I look at the bottom line. When the engine is warmed up the rockers looses it lash! The old 40 HP engine had two types of studs holding the rockers on the early head had a long stud that went much deeper than the rocker boss into the lower part of the head. The longer studs had to be adjusted to .008ths because they loose clearance as the engine warmed up. The newer heads with the short stud that screwed in the rocker boss where adjusted to .004ths because they gained clearance. This had nothing to do with the expantion of the push rods cylinders block and heads or did it
