Dan, there's all kinds of options for this, in the way of repairs, but I fooled with mine for over a year and still never got satisfactory performance. So I opted to buy a new one from Camelback VW in Phoenix, Az. If you let them know you are out of the state you will get a better price. Also tell them that you are a Vanagon List member. Your existing speedo will have components that will need to be swapped over, but yu need to be sure the new one has a place for them to be mounted.
