Dan, the failure of the odometer in the Speedometer is brought on by pushing the reset while the vehicle is moving. Do it enough, and eventually the gears slip on a shaft inside the speedo. Make sure you are at a dead stop before resetting the speedo. This will ensure relatively long life on a new one.
