Subject: low fuel pressure and lean engine
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Volks, Happy independence day. I plan on celebrating the 4th by liberating my van of a few problems over the weekend. Or, at least I plan to give it a try.

My fuel pressure is about 23-24psi at idle when the engine is hot. This is 5 to 6 psi lower than the pressure recommended in the Bentley manual. Is this the fuel pressure regulator? I've got a spare fuel pressure regulator from a _used_ engine that I can swap in tomorrow to see if it will help. Of course, I'm not sure if the used regulator is good or not.

Right now, the voltage from my oxygen sensor is hovering around 0.1 volts to 0.25 volts, considerably lower than the 0.45 volts it should be at. This is after driving the van for about 15 minutes and heating up the O2 sensor. The lower voltage would appear to indicate a lean running engine.

I have not fiddled with the air-fuel mixture screw on my air-flow-meter. I figure that may this is a problem with the fuel pressure? Maybe it's not delivering enough fuel to the injectors?

Any thoughts before I swap out the fuel pressure regulator tomorrow?

Should I buy a new one?

I put a new fuel filter in about a year and a half ago.

I have not changed the fuel pump yet.

Anything else I should look at?

Thanks.

Regards, Craig
