James first you say valve adjustment then valve job I will address both When I build a type 2 engine I use new valve covers and clips because the old one tend to not get the job done even with new gaskets. so if the covers where removed to adjust the valve then they could be leaking due to age or misalignment on the head. The location of the leak if its the valve cover should be easy see if you wipe down the covers and let the engine run If a valve job was done then the shop remmoved the tubes and yes the seals could be leaking but these would not have been touched with a valve adjustment. The other thing that leaks oil on the type 2 heads is the inner head stud openings when I install a head on my rebuilt engines I use silicone on the inner head washers to seal the 4 openings good luck Bob ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Juniper" <jamesandjennifer@NT.SYMPATICO.CA> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> Sent: Sunday, July 04, 2004 9:26 AM Subject: Oil Leak Over Heater Box

Hello, I Just got my 81 Vanagon back from the shop where I asked them to do a valve adjustment. They did and it runs fine but I found today that oil is dripping from somewhere over the right (if your looking at the back of the van) heater box. Over night this added up to a spot the size of a pie plate. Is this likely the valve cover gasket? Or those push rod tubes that seem to go all the time? I'm going to take it back Monday of course, but want some leverage if them tell me it was nothing to do with the valve job. Any advice from the pros? Thanks, James in Yellowknife
